Frequent Questions - OASIS

Q. I’ve recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis. How can OASIS help me?
The OASIS multidisciplinary team – made up of nurse clinicians, physiotherapists, dietitians, and occupational therapists – provides assessments that deal with more than just your joint pain. They also assess how you move, your diet, and your overall health and wellness. From here, they will create a personalized Action Plan that outlines your personal goals and recommendations for referral and treatment. OASIS will also help you access the support services you need to live well with osteoarthritis.

Q. How will my family doctor be involved in my care if I go for an OASIS assessment appointment?
OASIS will keep your family doctor up-to-date on your progress at various stages along the way. Once your Action Plan is developed, your family doctor and the OASIS team will help you access the support services you need to manage your osteoarthritis.

Q. Do I need a referral from my family doctor to access OASIS?
Yes and no. You need a referral from your family doctor, surgeon, or rheumatologist to be assessed by OASIS. You do not need a referral to access brochures and resources, or attend a primary education session. Take the time to search this website. Information about osteoarthritis, self-management, and community resources is at your finger tips.

Q. Can I bring a family member or care giver to my assessment appointment or education session?
Yes. We will provide you with lots of information about your condition and how to manage it. Please bring a friend, family member, or care giver if you are worried that you may be overwhelmed.

Q. I don’t speak English well. How can I access OASIS?
If you have trouble speaking or understanding English, please let us know so we can book a translator for your appointment. You can also bring someone you trust to translate for you.
